The risks of missing the adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog in the cinema were huge, but Paramount Pictures managed to make a decent copy for the press and the public with sonic the movie. He now wants to take advantage of this success to launch a real saga, while a third part and a series spin off on Knuckles have been signed. The subject of the moment remains all the same sonic the movie 2, a sequel that has just been released in theaters in France. Converted essay?
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 feels like no-brainer 80s/90s TV action comedy.
Jeff Fowler and his teams have generally decided to use the same codes as for the first episode, pushing them a step further. The sequel takes place some time after the end of the first feature film, as the Dr.Robotnik returns to Earth, this time accompanied by a Knuckles decided to get his hands on a powerful Emerald whom he considers to belong to his vanished people, the Echidnas. A not very original scenario, which is mostly sewn with large stitches made incredible twists and inexplicable deus ex machinapowers with difficult to understand ins and outs and flashbacks which offer a disappointing vision of the universe of the saga. There is not much to keep in this story, just saved by its classic general scheme that holds up.
After all, you have to take sonic the movie 2 as a production for the general public, accessible to all and calibrated to be appreciated by the youngest. Whether in terms of his jokes about flatulence, his dance passage so confusing that it becomes amusing, on the one hand sonic endearing slaps or a limitless Jim Carrey, it smells like no-nonsense 80s/90s TV action comedy, with all the flaws that entails. We regret that the large budget is not always felt on the screen, because if some decorations and animations are very successful, visual effects, computer graphics and green backgrounds are all too often guessworkclearly breaking the immersion.
The feature film has at least the advantage of not boring despite its 2 hours of duration, almost without dead time. He ensures his frenetic pace with scenes dedicated to tom, Maddie and their entourage, for uninteresting human interactions without being boring, giving rise to passages that are sometimes gratuitously wacky. sonic the movie 2 is damn crazybut his eccentricities have succeeded in entertaining us, where they risk annoying many.
We will especially remember this generous and fast sonic the movie 2 his introduction of Knucklescharacter certainly nag and badly written, but terribly class, and above all of Tails. This adorable ball of fur in search of landmark serves a moral about touching friendship and clearly steals the show from his friend. We also note the many easter eggs in homage to the saga, sliding sequences à la Sonic Riders to the mechanics of gameplay reused sparingly and intelligently. Both the final fight and the post-credit scene also bring their share of fan service pleasing which make that, despite everything, we’ll probably dive back with guilty pleasure into a sonic the movie 3, which deserves to be more careful on all points. And if we had a recreational time at our age, the child fan of sonic which we were sure would have loved it even more.
