NATO has officially requested Denmark to send a combat battalion with around 800 soldiers to Latvia, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen confirmed during a visit to Latvia on Thursday, according to the Ritzau news agency. An official request from the military alliance had been expected after the Danish government offered to send the battalion to the Baltics on Tuesday if requested. While the deployment is contingent on approval by the Danish parliament, the Defence Ministry expects the battalion to be ready for deployment in Latvia in May.
