Apple has now decided to allow dating apps in the Netherlands to handle payments through third-party services, reports The Verge.
Apple has previously been fined around 50 million euros in the country for not following the competition authority’s decision that the company must allow dating apps to handle their own purchases.
Apple has criticized the authority’s decision and argued that it will mean poorer data security.
At first, Apple tried to solve it all by allowing dating apps to use alternative payment systems, but then developers had to submit a separate binary app for the App Store in the Netherlands and choose between using its in-app payment system or a third-party version, instead of both. Regardless of the method, Apple charges a commission of 27 percent.
The solution with a separate binary has now been scrapped while the commission remains. Developers of existing dating apps, however, must limit the various payment methods to the Netherlands’ store and to devices running iOS and iPad OS.
