Germany’s centre-left Social Democratic Party (SPD) has won the state elections in Saarland. According to the provisional official final results, the SPD achieved 43.5% on Sunday, as could be seen on the website of the state election commissioner after all constituency results had been counted. The ruling conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) achieved 28.5%. The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), with 5.7%, entered the regional parliament.
