EU foreign and defence ministers adopted a new common defence policy allowing the European Union to establish rapid response forces, multiple diplomatic sources confirmed to dpa on Monday. The decision paves the way for the EU to become a real “defence and security player,” Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs said on Twitter. He warned however the bloc’s credibility in this area remained under scrutiny in Ukraine.
