Tensions are rising along with infection figures in Germany as several states said on Tuesday that they were not yet ready to lift most of their coronavirus restrictions. New legislation set to be debated by the Cabinet on Wednesday will mean that from Sunday, states can drop the obligation to wear masks in almost all areas of public life, apart from in hospitals, care homes and on public transport.
