IT House reported on April 8 that the Smart Elf 1 has been released. It is produced by a smart motor joint venture between Geely and Mercedes-Benz. It is designed by Mercedes-Benz and developed by Geely. It is based on Geely’s SEA vast pure electric platform and will be equipped with a battery temperature control system. It’s the biggest car in Smart’s history.

The arrival of this model heralds the official transformation of the 28-year-old Smart into an electric vehicle brand, and the mass-production version of this model will challenge on the battlefield of a number of emerging car-making forces.

Completely unrelated to the previous Smart Fortwo and Smart for4 electric cars, this is the brand’s first new model since Geely bought half of the company from Mercedes-Benz in 2019, and the first since 2014. A smart car, which CEO Dirk Adelmann calls “the heart of everything in the future.”

Compared to the concept car shown at last year’s Munich Motor Show, the new smart electric car looks little changed. The new smart EV is a premium-market crossover with dimensions and specifications comparable to those of the Renault Mégane E-Tech and Kia Niro EVs. However, Smart stressed that the car is designed to maximize interior space, making the interior size comparable to that of a Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

It is worth mentioning that this is the first European electric vehicle to use Geely’s new SEA electric vehicle architecture, and the previously launched Jikr 001 is also a product of this platform, and will soon serve an entry-level electric SUV from Volvo.

Gordon Wagner, Mercedes’ chief design officer, called the new design language a “sensory product” and described it as “mature, cool, and beautiful with smart solutions.”

Of course, the efficiency and range of this crossover leaves room for improvement compared to the competition. Electricity is stored in a 66kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery for a maximum range of 273 miles, while a 150kW fast-charging capability means a 10-80% charge can be done in half an hour.

The parameters of the new car are as follows:

– Rear permanent magnet synchronous motor, peak power 200 kW, peak torque 343 N m, breaking 100 in 6.7 seconds;

– Equipped with a 66 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, with a maximum range of 560 kilometers under CLTC conditions;

– Supports 7.2 kW AC slow charging, 100 kW DC fast charging and 150 kW DC over-charging, and can replenish 5-80% of battery capacity within 30 minutes at the fastest;

– Vehicle dimensions 4270 x 1822 x 1636 mm, wheelbase 2750 mm, equipped with 19-inch wheels, tire size 235/45 R19;

– The volume of the front luggage compartment is 15L, and the volume of the trunk (4/6 points of the second row of seats, which can be slid/flat) is 323-411/986L;

– 12.8-inch floating central control screen, the resolution is not 2K but 1920 x 1080, equipped with 12G running memory and 128G storage space car system hardware, equipped with 9.2-inch full HD LCD instrument;

– smart Pilot intelligent assisted driving system support: Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind Spot Detection System (BSD), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), Automatic Parking Assist (APA) and Adaptive Near High Beam light adjustment;

– Equipped with exclusive App and AI elf assistant Avatar for car owners (the image is a Low Poly style fox).
