IT House April 6 news, according to BusinessKorea, Chinese display maker BOE is developing panels for Samsung Electronics’ new A13 and A23 series of affordable smartphones, which are scheduled to launch in May.
According to the report, a person in the display industry said,Samsung approached BOE in late March with the idea of producing panels for its next flagship smartphoneis currently in discussions with the Chinese panel maker for technical validation and contract signing.
BOE is the world’s largest display maker with a 20% market share of OLED and LCD panels.
Samsung Electronics plans to release new foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, in August 2022, with panels for the company’s previous foldable models provided by Samsung Display.
BOE will become a panel supplier to Samsung Electronics by supplying large LCD panels to Samsung Electronics. Previously, large LCD panels were exclusively supplied by Samsung Display.
Samsung Electronics asked BOE to verify its technology first. Experts said that the key lies in whether BOE can meet technical quality requirements such as thermal shock and life testing.
IT House learned that Chen Yanshun, chairman of BOE, stated in his speech in the 2021 annual report that BOE’s market share in five major application fields including mobile phones, tablets, laptops, monitors, and TVs continued to rank first in the world. It is a milestone in the successful realization of the monthly shipment of flexible AMOLED products in the tens of millions.
