After showing a preview inside the new Apple Studio Display last week along with a Mac Studio teardown, iFixit is back today with a complete teardown of Apple’s professional monitor. Check out the full breakdown below, which explores the infamous webcam, shows why the Studio’s display is 50% thicker than the M1 iMac, and more.

Right after Studio Display opened, iFixit dismantled the 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, which performed poorly in initial testing and drew a lot of criticism (Apple says a future software update should fix this).

Looking at the Studio Display camera up close, iFixit says it looks almost identical to the front camera of the iPhone 11. This made iFixit optimistic that the hardware will be able to offer much better performance with a software update.

iFixit also showcases the “massive” fans that Apple had to turn on to dissipate heat from the internal power supply, a detailed A13-chip logic board, a Spatial Audio-enabled speaker system, and more.

Notably, iFixit claims the Studio Display is 50% thicker than the M1 iMac due to the power supply being inside the monitor, rather than the M1 iMac with an external power supply.
