As part of the BMC’s dog sterilization drive to control the number of strays in the city, 50 per cent of the total number of stray dogs have been neutered in the last five years. In a reply to Shiv Sena corporator Sachin Padwal, the BMC has said that the total number of strays rose to over 2.64 lakh and even after spending Rs 9 crore in the last five years, the civic body has managed to sterilise 1.22 lakh dogs so far.
