Global food giant Nestlé said it will start paying cocoa farmers cash to send their children to school in order to reduce the risk of child labour in its chocolate products. It is one of several incentives the company announced on Thursday that aim to “improve the livelihoods of cocoa-farming families, while also advancing regenerative agriculture practices and gender equality.” Nestlé said cocoa farmers will also receive financial rewards for switching to more sustainable agricultural practices, such as pruning and planting shade trees.
