A 52-year-old man was struck and killed by a freight train in Scotch Plains earlier this month, authorities said Tuesday. The man was hit on Feb. 1 by a westbound Conrail train at about 5 a.m. south of the Country Club Village apartments off Martine Avenue, Scotch Plains police said in a statement. The train’s engineer and conductor stopped the train and waited for police after the man was struck. The Scotch Plains resident was pronounced dead at the scene.
