Ukrainian skeleton athlete Vladyslav Heraskevych has used the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing to highlight the threat of his country being invaded by Russia. He held up a sign saying “No War in Ukraine” after his third of four runs in the men’s competition at the sliding venue in Yanqing on Friday. The 23-year-old could face sanctions for the action from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), who forbid athletes from making political statements at Games venues. Russia have amassed thousands of troops on Ukraine’s borders but despite western fears have denied plans to invade the country.
