The president of the European Central Bank (ECB), Christine Lagarde, has said she would like to see famous Europeans depicted on the next generation of euro banknotes. “Personally, I can very well imagine the faces of famous Europeans on the banknotes: Leonardo da Vinci, Ludwig van Beethoven or James Joyce,” the French economist told the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland news network in an interview published on Friday.
