It’s confirmed: Square Enix is officially working on a fourth part of the Kingdom Hearts series. Kingdom Hearts 4 will obviously be developed on the basis of Unreal Engine 5. A first trailer provides an impression of what awaits us with the finished game.
After things had been pretty quiet for a while when it came to Kingdom Hearts, those responsible at Square Enix have now let the cat out of the bag: Kingdom Hearts 4 is officially in development. The developers announced this in connection with the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the series.
Release date is not fixed yet
In addition to a review of previous parts of the series, the trailer for the anniversary also shows the first images from Kingdom Hearts 4. A cinematic that hints at the background of the next title is followed by a few short gameplay scenes:
Square Enix has not yet revealed any details about the game. The developers only announced this much:
“Sora makes a triumphant return with a new look at the start of an epic new story titled ‘Lost Master Arc’. It all begins with Sora taking on a massive enemy in a boss fight before players are introduced to the Quadratum, a vast, sprawling city set in a gorgeous, realistic world unlike anything seen before in the Kingdom -Hearts series. Fans can look forward to a reunion with Sora’s familiar companions, as well as the first appearance of Strelitzia, a mysterious new character who appears before Sora in this strange new environment.“
When Kingdom Hearts 4 will be released, Square Enix is currently just as open as the answer to the question of which platforms will benefit from the latest offshoot of the series. What is certain, however, is that the game will be developed on the basis of Unreal Engine 5. We also expect that the developers will reveal more details about the game soon. Until then, the first trailer definitely makes you want more.
