Rogue Legacy made its mark on the independent video game market nine years ago, launching a new era of success for the rogue-like genre.

Its sequel, Rogue Legacy 2 was announced in 2020, and two years later, its developer Cellar Door Games has just revealed the end date of the game’s early access. Little time to wait now since players will be able to go on an adventure on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series from April 28th.

The worthy successor to his elder

Like its predecessor, Rogue Legacy 2 stands out with a fun specificity in its rogue-like gameplay: each time your character dies, you choose your next adventurer among the heirs of your deceased knight. Your new character therefore inherits some of the traits and skills of its parent, while developing new ones.
In this sequel, even more weapons, skills and characteristics have been added for even more combination possibilities.

The graphic style is also different in this sequel, no pixel art this time but beautiful hand-drawn backgrounds enhance the adventure game. The four years of development, of the game and the efforts made are very clearly felt in the visual quality of the game. Environments are more compelling in their appearance, but the procedural generation of dungeons has also been improved to create even more lively biomes.

If ever you feel like it but you still hesitate to discover this game, the first episode is available for free on the Epic Games Store until April 13, the perfect opportunity to (re)discover this nugget of the genre.
