The first major update for Season 1 of Age of Empires 4 is live and brings a whole range of interesting innovations. In addition, there are currently increasing indications that Microsoft is working on a console port for the strategy game for Xbox Series X/S.

Age of Empires 4 coming to Xbox Series X and S soon? There have been indications of this for a long time, but now there are increasing indications that Microsoft is planning a console port of the strategy game. Meanwhile, PC players can look forward to the first major update for the title, which includes the first ranked season in PvP and special events including various challenges.

Xbox Live hints at console version

New hints that a console version of Age of Empires 4 could be in the house can be found, among other things, in the description of the strategy game in the Microsoft Store. It states that players need an Xbox Live subscription to play online multiplayer. An internal version of the game had previously surfaced on the Xbox Insider Hub. Microsoft itself has already stated that it wants to test a console version of AoE 4 – so it remains quite likely that the title will eventually find its way to the next-gen Xbox Series X and S consoles.

If you want to pass the time waiting for the console version with the PC version, you can look forward to the latest update for AoE 4. Among other things, this comes with the first rated PvP season including various special events. The new content primarily includes:

  • a beta version of the content editor including developer mods and dedicated tutorials
  • 1v1 Ranked Ladder
  • improved hotkeys
  • various quality-of-live improvements (global production queue, patrol, random civ selection in the lobby and full map reveal after the end of a game)
  • new Art of War Challenge
  • Adjustments to campaign mission difficulty
  • Balancing changes to some races
