Sony has announced the euro prices for its 2022 televisions, including the new QD OLED models. As expected, they are not quite cheap and also more expensive than the equivalents from Samsung Electronics, where the same panel from Samsung Display is used.

Sony has named the prices for its 2022 televisions, including in particular the QD-OLED models, which use the new panel from Samsung Display and are therefore the only large-format devices with the new technology so far, alongside the models from Samsung itself. In its position and with the claim of a premium provider, the devices are not exactly cheap either. Two models with QD-OLED panel are offered:

  • Sony Bravia XR-55A95K 55-inch 4K QD OLED TV: €3,049 ($2,999 + VAT)
  • Sony Bravia XR-65A96K 65-inch 4K QD-OLED TV: €4,049 ($3,999 + VAT)

This is – although expected – reasonably high, because Samsung has quoted prices of 2,399.99 and 3,499.99 US dollars plus VAT for its own models of the S95B series. Hence the US prices in brackets above for better comparability, because Samsung does not yet have any euro prices. Sony states that the Samsung panel has a higher maximum brightness and a higher color volume than the LG panels. This is marketed by Sony as XR Triluminos MAX and is supposed to attract attention with even deeper colors, especially in green and red. XR OLED Contrast Pro is the term used for the thermally conductive layer, including functions such as a heat map, which can be used to darken areas of the panel that are too warm with pinpoint accuracy – or the other way around, achieve higher peak brightness levels if there is still capacity available. Ultimately, the new panels are said to have three advantages in particular over the panels installed up to now: higher color range, more brightness and ultimately also a larger viewing angle. The first details about the devices were already available at CES.

If you look for an in-house comparison, Sony devices with LG panels (WRGB) are cheaper:

  • Sony Bravia XR-55A80K 55 inch 4K OLED: 2,299 euros
  • Sony Bravia XR-65A80K 65 inch 4K OLED: 3,199 euros
  • Sony Bravia XR-77A80K 77 inch 4K OLED: 4,499 euros

For comparison: LG prices for 2022. For the sake of completeness, it should also be mentioned that Sony has also published the prices for LCD devices with conventional backlighting and mini-LED technology. They look like this:
