It’s hard to understand how Google goes about making Picture in Picture (PiP) accessible for the YouTube app on iOS. Last year, this feature was finally offered to YouTube Premium subscribers, but it was considered a experimental feature.

However, this experiment has been completed since April 9. What does that mean ? Apparently, YouTube Premium subscribers who had PiP enabled can still enjoy it. On the other hand, those who had not done so find Gros-Jean as before. What is Google waiting for to make PiP, a function that has existed since 2015 on the iPad, accessible to all its Premium subscribers? Mystery and gumdrop.

To add to the confusion, YouTube’s Twitter account replied to a user that the PiP was being deployed on all iOS 15 devices, and it would take a few more days. Maybe we should understand that the end of the experiment marks the beginning of the general deployment… or maybe not.

Anyway, whether you are a YouTube Premium subscriber or not, there are Safari extensions that unlock the Picture-in-Picture feature on the web version of YouTube.
