In the beta for iOS 15.5, a bunch of references to “Apple Classical” will appear, which is said to be Apple’s upcoming music streaming service for classical music. Among other things, we see the text lines “Open in Apple Classical” and “Open this in the new app designed for classical music” in the code for the Music app.

Apple bought the music streaming service Primephonic, which specializes in classical music, in August last year and at the same time said that they were working on a new experience for streaming classical music. We still do not know exactly when the app may come, but it is not entirely impossible that it will now come in our equally lossless and spatial sound for Apple Music last year.

References to “Apple Classical” are leaking

Apple music service for classical music

Last year, Apple bought the music streaming service Primephonic, which specializes in classical music, then Apple said that the main features of the service would be part of Apple Music and that they would release a new standalone app. Now it seems that we are seeing the first glimpse of the result of Apple’s purchase, because references to someone called “Apple Classical” have appeared in the latest beta of Apple Music on Android. Exactly when we will see “Apple Classical” remains to be seen, but it will not be very long. Apple, for example, announced support for lossless and spatial sound in Apple Music from nowhere relatively early last year.

Apple buys Primephonic

Music service for classical music is now part of Apple Music

Apple announced yesterday that it has acquired the music service Primephonic, a streaming service for classical music that was launched in 2017. Apple writes in a press release that it plans to launch an improved version of the Primephonic app next year. Primephonic’s songs and playlists will also be integrated into Apple Music. In the press release, Apple writes: “Apple Music plans to launch a special app for classical music next year that combines Primephonic’s classic user interface that fans have come to love with additional features. Meanwhile, current Primephonic subscribers get Apple Music for free for six months, which gives them access to hundreds of thousands of classic albums, all in lossless and high-definition sound, as well as hundreds of classic albums in Apple Music’s spatial sounds. New albums are added regularly. ” Primephonic’s app has already been removed from the App Store and the service will shut down completely on 7 September.
