Support will end in May 2022 for two older versions of Windows 10, which, at least according to unofficial statistics, are still in use on around every eighth PC. Windows 10 1909 and 20H2 will receive their final security updates on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.

The dates have been known for a long time, but in view of the approaching end date, Microsoft has it again pointed out. Version 1909 is only supported in the enterprise area anyway; it has already expired for the Home and Pro editions. With a share of just over two percent, it is no longer particularly widespread.

Version 20H2 is still in use on almost eleven percent of all PCs, but Microsoft is actively promoting the updating of these devices via Windows Update. Ideally, you don’t have to do anything to be prepared for the end of support.

If you are unsure which version of Windows 10 is running on a PC, you can press the key combination Windows+R and enter the command winver, then the corresponding version will be displayed.

In order to update to the current version 21H2 of Windows 10, you can also actively search for updates under Windows 10. There is no official way to “force” the update, since Microsoft does not offer the so-called “enablement packages” for download. Unofficial download sources are, however not hard to find.
