A 63-year-old man was sentenced Thursday to 11 years in state prison for causing the deaths of his mother and her companion in a 2018 Burlington County house fire, authorities said. Kurt Smith was accused of igniting flammable material with a cigarette lighter in the garage of a Browns Mills residence he shared with his mother before unsuccessfully trying to extinguish the flames, according to Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina.
