As we gleaned from the closing minutes of Epic Games’ Unreal Showcase on April 5th Dallas Dickinson experienced, Crystal Dynamics is working on a new one Tomb Raider and will use Unreal Engine 5 to do so. There wasn’t much more information about the game.
Upon request during the BAFTA Awards by Eurogamer at screenwriter Rhianna Pratchett, who was responsible for the story and character background of the first two parts of the franchise’s reboot trilogy, confirmed the current work on the new project. She herself is not involved in the production, but is happy and excited to see what the studio will do with Lara. Pratchett further:
We really had a fun time developing her character. I am happy to see how she is now becoming independent and enjoying what she is doing. Because when we wrote the reboot script, she was just on her way to becoming a real Tomb Raider. She was like a proto-tomb raider and all the qualities associated with her, such as toughness, bravery or resourcefulness, just bubbled to the surface.
I want to see the full development now, I want to see the cheeky one-liners and all the things I wish I had written. But she wasn’t at that stage then, she didn’t have the confidence yet. I think the trilogy has been very well received by the fans and it will be very exciting to see what she will do next.
