Messenger WhatsApp announced the fix for a bug that affects the security of correspondence and introduces users into a false sense of security. MacRumors reports.
It’s about self-destructing chats. Some time ago, WhatsApp introduced such chats on all supported platforms, thanks to which the user could not worry about the security of the correspondence – after the time set by him, the chat was automatically cleared.
However, later a serious bug was noticed in this function: the messenger continued to save media files to the device’s memory, which were marked as self-destructing. As a result, this file honestly disappeared from the messenger, but remained in the smartphone’s media library. This is contrary to the very essence of the function, which implies that all your chat will disappear after a while and it will not be possible to return to it.
WhatsApp developers report that this bug has now been fixed. They promise that the messenger will no longer save self-destructing files to your device’s media library. The “Save to Camera Roll” option no longer affects disappearing chats – it is always disabled for them.
It’s worth noting that the user can still manually save a file from a self-destructing chat.
The WhatsApp security patch will be available to all users soon. The developers claim that within 24 hours everything will be fixed.
