A man was struck and killed by a passing vehicle Tuesday night in Toms River as he went to get an item out of his parked car, officials said. The 31-year-old driver was headed east on Bay Avenue when she veered onto the shoulder and hit the man and his vehicle near the intersection of Twin Oaks Drive, Toms River police said in a statement. Both vehicles traveled about 96 feet before coming to a rest in the residential neighborhood. The man was pronounced dead at the scene following the 10:25 p.m. crash, police said.
