Germany’s Vinzenz Geiger came from far behind and flew past team-mate Johannes Rydzek on the last small uphill to claim Olympic normal hill gold in Nordic combined skiing at the Beijing Games on Wednesday. Rydzek seemed to be cruising to victory when he shook off Austrian Lukas Greiderer with 1.5 kilometres left but a chase group led by the relentless Geiger caught them in the stadium and Geiger won the 10km cross country pursuit from 11th place in the jumping.
