Will Smith was “banned” by the Oscars for 10 years to accept and respect the decision: many new films starring were shelved

It was previously reported that Will Smith submitted his resignation to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the sponsor of the Oscars, saying that he would accept all the consequences of his actions and promised to no longer allow his violence to surpass reason.

After resigning, he is no longer eligible to participate in Oscar voting, but can still be nominated, attend the ceremony and retain the Oscar statuette he has won.

Now, the Board of Directors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has decided to ban actor Will Smith from participating in any events sponsored by the organization for 10 years.

The temporary injunction comes after Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars. In a letter released Friday, the board wrote, “Today, the board meets to discuss how best to respond to Will Smith’s conduct at the Academy Awards. The board has decided that, effective April 8, 2022, Smith will not attend any Oscar event or show, in person or virtually, for a period of 10 years, including but not limited to the Oscars.” The council will continue to express its “deep gratitude” to Chris Rock “for his composure in exceptional circumstances” .

In response, Smith said: “I accept and respect the academy’s decision.
