German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has threatened Russia with “far-reaching consequences” in the event of an invasion of Ukraine. The impact on Russia would be “political, economic and certainly geostrategic,” he said in remarks made before holding crisis talks with French President Emmanuel Macron and Polish President Andrzej Duda in Berlin. “Our common goal is to prevent a war in Europe,” he said. Despite massing troops near Ukraine’s border, Russia denies having plans to attack and accuses the West of scaremongering.
