Apple may soon release a new version of its USB-C wall adapter with a notable improvement. A support document posted briefly on Apple’s website and reviewed shows that the company is working on a new 35W dual USB-C power adapter…

Apple’s first dual USB-C power adapter is on the way?

It is not yet clear when Apple plans to release this accessory, and it is also possible that it has been retired altogether. However, the support document makes it clear that the accessory exists:

Use the Apple 35W Dual USB-C Power Adapter and a USB-C cable (not included) to charge your device. Connect the USB-C cable to any port on the power adapter, extend the electrical prongs (if needed), then plug the power adapter securely into a power outlet. Make sure the outlet is easily accessible to unplug. Connect the other end of the cable to your device.

The document was quickly removed after publication. This will be the first time Apple has released a charger with two USB-C ports. 35W of power will be enough to charge multiple iPhones, iPhones and Apple Watches, or several other combinations of accessories.

For example, the iPhone 13 Pro Max is capable of fast charging at up to 27W. This means that the USB-C Dual Wall Adapter can quickly charge the iPhone 13 Pro Max and also charge other accessories such as the Apple Watch. In fact, the Apple Watch Series 7 can also be fast-charged from any 5W USB-C wall outlet.

The accessory will also support USB-C Power Delivery technology, according to the document:

Input: 100-240V / 1.0A (USB PD) Output 1 or 2: 5VDC / 3A or 9VDC / 3A or 15VDC / 2.33A or 20VDC / 1.75 A

Again, it’s unclear when (or if) Apple will release this accessory. We have heard repeatedly that Apple is planning to expand its line of power adapters, especially with the use of GaN technology. This 35W dual USB-C power adapter could very well be Apple’s first GaN charger at launch, although Apple doesn’t mention GaN technology in the support document.

For example, Digitimes reported last year that Apple was developing new GaN (gallium nitride) chargers with USB-C connectivity. Various companies make GaN chargers that are smaller and faster than the USB-C chargers that Apple includes in its MacBook lineup and sells separately for its iPhones.

The introduction of GaN technology could help Apple streamline its charger lineup and make it more versatile through dual-port designs, higher performance, and more. GaN chargers are also generally smaller than non-GaN chargers.

Another possibility is that Apple could release this new dual USB-C power adapter in tandem with an updated version of MagSafe Duo. MagSafe Duo currently allows you to charge your iPhone and Apple Watch at the same time, but Apple Watch charges more slowly than if you were using a dedicated fast charger.

As you might expect, Apple notes in a support document that USB-C cables are not included with this USB-C dual port power adapter, so you’ll have to provide your own.
