Following the announcement of a new Tomb Raider based on Unreal Engine 5, the former Reboot trilogy author has voiced her wishes for the new game. She would like to see fewer father problems for Lara Croft.
Last week Crystal Dynamics confirmed the development of a new Tomb Raider game based on Unreal Engine 5. Now former Tomb Raider author Rhianna Pratchett has spoken out and wants Lara Croft to be less in the next game has father problems.
New Tomb Raider: Former Author Wishes Lara Croft Fewer Dad Problems
Speaking at the BAFTA Games Awards, Pratchett confirmed to Eurogamer that she would not be working on the newly announced Tomb Raider. But she is very excited to see what the responsible developers will do next with the character Lara Croft. “We had a lot of fun developing her character, so I’d like to see less dad issues,” she explains. “And that’s from me!”

She continued, “I like it when she makes her own path and really enjoys what she’s doing. Because when we were writing the reboot game, she was really on her way to becoming a Tomb Raider. Her So was kind of a proto-Tomb Raider. And all the qualities that you associate with Tomb Raider, like tenacity, bravery, resourcefulness, kind of bubbled up to the surface with her. “I want to live it out to the full, I want the cheeky sayings and see things I wish I had written. But, you know, she wasn’t there yet, she didn’t have the confidence yet,” Pratchett explains.
“I think the trilogy has been really well received by fans, so it will be exciting to see what they do next,” said Pratchett. Incidentally, the author of the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy presented the evening’s first prize for storytelling to during the BAFTA Games Awards unpacking.
