While Microsoft’s takeover process is underway, Activision-Blizzard still has many issues to deal with. Many complaints have been heard about the company’s reliance on temporary contracts or contractors. This was particularly true for everything related to the quality assurance process: the testers.
1100 full-time recruitments
We learn today that Activision has decided to work on this problem. To this end, no fewer than 1,100 temporary or contract workers have been recruited full-time. This represents a 25% increase in the number of employees. The minimum wage for these employees is also increased to $20 per hour, with access to company benefits. As a reminder, Activision had already made such a conversion in December, but to a lesser extent with 500 posts.
With Activision Blizzard, we’re bringing more content to gamers than ever before across all of our franchises. As a result, we are refining the way our teams work together to develop our games, and deliver the best possible experience to players. We have ambitious plans for the future and our quality team members are a critical part of our development efforts.
This development also follows several months of grumbling among employees, particularly at Raven. Employees of this studio have created a union, which is not recognized by the company. However, the announced salary increase would not be linked to the training of the latter. According to a spokesperson for Activision-Blizzard, these increases would be the continuation of a process started last year. Black point for the studio, its employees will not benefit from these new conditions because “legal obligations under the National Labor Relations Act”.
For its part, the ABK Activision Blizzard King association welcomes these announcements after nearly a year of calling for an improvement in the conditions of these employees.
A year ago, we made a promise to make A Better ABK. Little by little, we are accomplishing that goal. This is the power of collective action. When you work with your co-workers for the betterment of your workplace, the impossible becomes possible. #ABetterABK #EveryVoiceMatters
