Reviewing a pair of headphones like the Sennheiser IE600 is not entirely easy. On the one hand, the sound in them is fantastically good, the best sound I have heard in a pair of in-ear headphones. At the same time, the price you have to pay to get this sound is very high. Both in actual kronor (Sennheiser IE600 costs a breathtaking SEK 7,190), but also what you have to give up in terms of convenience and features. Is it worth it? Read more below to get the answer.
Rating 4 out of 5
Opinion
The Sennheiser IE 600 is a pair of headphones for sound enthusiasts who are willing to pay the high price of SEK 7,190. These enthusiasts get a world-class sound for the money. But for the normal user, who appreciates such things as wireless, noise reduction and being able to make and receive calls, there are plenty of other options with a more reasonable price tag.
Positively
- Fantastic sound
- Many included plops
Negative
- High price
- Not wireless
- No controls on the headphones or cable
For starters, the Sennheiser IE 600 is not wireless. Here it is the cord, and only the cord, that counts. And the cables that come with it have only 3.5 mm plug or 4.4 mm plug. For example, if you have a newer Iphone with a lightning connector, you need an adapter.
They have no touch controls on the earbuds and no control on the cables either. In other words, all playback control must take place at the source, whether it is a mobile phone, computer or other.
The fit is good, although it takes a bit of tinkering to get the headphones in place. After inserting them into the ear, bend to a brace around the ear that helps hold the cochlea in place. Once this is done, the headphones sit firmly and comfortably.
A plus also because it comes with as many as six pairs of plops. Both silicone and foam in the sizes small, medium and large.
No noise reduction, no app
Sennheiser IE 600 also has no form of active noise reduction. The included plops, however, do a good job of shutting out the outside sounds, especially those of foam.
There is no app either, such as equalizer is just to forget. And since the Sennheiser IE 600 is not equipped with any microphone, it is also not possible to make or receive calls.
In other words, the Sennheiser IE 600 is a pair of headphones that is only aimed at those who want to listen to music and want to be able to do so with the best possible sound quality.
For one, Sennheiser delivers IE 600. Geez how good they sound! It’s without a doubt the best sound I’ve ever heard in a pair of in-ear headphones. Okay, the base can not really measure up to that of a pair of good on-ear headphones, but it’s not far off. And both midrange and treble are so incredibly clean and clear that you shudder.
It does not matter what kind of music you play, everything from classical to death metal sounds great!
But is it worth the price? The answer is a mischievous “yes”. Of course, if you are a music lover who is not satisfied with anything but the best, you will get it. But if you are a normal user who prioritizes other functions and features than just the sound, then there are plenty of other headphones that are more affordable.
