A few days ago, SHoP Architects announced the completion of The Steinway Tower, a supertall building located near Central Park in Manhattan, New York.
This so-called world’s thinnest skyscraper, the building foundation is only 18.5 meters wide, but the height has reached 435 meters, with a width and height of about 1:23.5.ThatInspired by the shape of a feather, the profile is reduced as the tower floor increases, giving a visual “fading into the sky” feeling.
The building has a total of 91 floors, with shopping malls at the bottom and apartments at the top. The whole building contains 60 apartments, the top two floors are duplex apartments, and the rest are large flats.Among them, the No. 74 penthouse has an area of 662 square meters and is priced at US$57 million, or nearly 400 million yuan.
In order to construct such a slender building, the construction team used a large number of reinforced concrete shear walls to ensure structural stability. In order to ensure the view and lighting in the north and south directions of the apartment, the south and north sides are mainly made of glass and copper alloys.
The building materials for the east and west facades of the building are mainly terracotta. The project uses about 43,000 individual terracotta monomers and 23 different three-dimensional modeling combinations. Interleaving these elements on the façade creates a unique moiré pattern that changes dramatically when viewed in different lights or from different angles.
