An island holiday has led to the resignation of a conservative minister in North Rhine Westphalia on Thursday, just five weeks before elections are due to be held in Germany’s most populous state. North Rhine Westphalia’s Environment Minister Ursula Heinen-Esser said she had offered her resignation to state Premier Hendrik Wüst, also a Christian Democrat, and that he had accepted it.
