Recently, Apple was required to allow developers to redirect users to third-party payment platforms instead of using the in-app purchase system in the App Store. Now discovered that the iOS 15.5 beta adds support for apps with external purchases after the announcement of a new permission for “reader apps”.

The latest beta version of Apple’s operating system fully supports the new right used by apps to indicate that they allow users to make external purchases. For example, if a user deletes an app that offers external purchases, iOS will display a warning that purchases and subscriptions cannot be managed through the App Store.

While the App Store allows users to manage all their purchases in one place, Apple doesn’t control what users buy outside of its platform, so it’s important to have a reminder for users.

External purchases from [app’s name] may still exist. You cannot manage or cancel any external purchases through the App Store. For more information contact the developer.

The internal iOS code analyzed also shows that Apple is implementing another warning that will be displayed when a user first opens an app that offers external purchases. However, it is worth noting that this feature will not be available for every app.

The App Store guidelines clearly state that “External Link Account Right” is only available for “Reader Apps”, which are apps that offer digital content such as magazines, books, songs, or videos. Another requirement is that the app cannot offer in-app purchases using the Apple platform. However, each request must be approved by Apple.
