After the cinema success of “Dune”, Dune: Spice Wars, a new adaptation of the game, is well known to win the favor of the fans. The strategy game now at least has an Early Access date.
In a press release, publisher Funcom and developer Shiro Games today announced the launch date of the new strategy game Dune: Spice Wars in Early Access. In the current month of April you will be able to immerse yourself in a game in the world of Dune for the first time in two decades.
From April 26, 2022, the pre-release version will be available on Steam, which will come with the first content. In the period that follows, further content will be gradually added until the later full version is released.
The title represents a mix of real-time strategy and 4X elements and is located in Frank Herberst’s well-known sci-fi universe. On the desert planet of Arrakis, four factions are striving to get hold of the most valuable resource in the universe: Spice.
Speaking of factions: the announcement of the date today also brought with it the presentation of the fourth playable faction, namely the Fremen. They can travel through the desert more easily and are less likely to attract the giant sandworms than other factions. The Fremen are also more easily aligned with the hidden sietches (neutral native settlements), giving them a unique vantage point to gain control of the planet.
The other factions are Atreides, Harkonnen and Smugglers. As the game progresses, you must balance military power, infiltration, political influence, and resource management.
In addition to the strategy game, Funcom is currently working on a survival multiplayer title in the Dune universe with an open game world. The company has exclusive Dune rights on PC and consoles.
