Microsoft is said to have paid manufacturers for a chip priority in order to be able to sell more Xbox Series X|S consoles.
In recent months, more and more Xbox Series S and some Xbox Series X consoles have become available at retailers.
But how can that be, given the global shortage of chips for electronic devices.
Microsoft apparently put money on the table for a chip priority last year in order to have more consoles available, especially for the Christmas business.
At least that’s what they say in the new XboxEra podcast.
There it says:
“In April [letzten Jahres] I got a direct message saying Microsoft was going to release a lot of consoles in the fall. And so they did, didn’t they?’
“Microsoft paid for chip priority in the factories, which is why we’ve seen so much more and are still seeing so much more Xbox inventory… I think it’s a wise investment.”
The investment seems to have paid off for Microsoft. Because that’s how you could, among other things, launch a Halo Infinite Xbox Series X Special Edition console.
Record sales were recorded in the UK in December and Xbox Series X|S were the best-selling consoles there in March this year.
