How and when can you buy a PS5 from Otto? We give you tips that will help you when ordering the PlayStation 5 on otto.de.

The current developments on the German-speaking PlayStation 5 market can be found in the PS5 ticker (fresh daily from Monday to Friday). Once the PS5 at Otto* is sold, we will also inform you immediately on our Twitter channel.

Update April 7, 2022: After a break of several weeks, PS5 sales picked up speed again at the end of March. Large Sony trading partners such as MediaMarkt, Saturn and Amazon were supplied with consoles. We therefore assume that Otto will soon be offering PS5 packages again – the last ‘drop’ took place on February 21st. We recommend you, this overview page* add to your bookmarks.

We explain how buying a PS5 from Otto works – and what mistakes you should avoid.

  • Demand for the PS5 continues to outstrip supply — by a wide margin. As with other senders, the PlayStation 5 is therefore only available on specific working days and only at specific times (so-called ‘drops’).
  • These time slots are from Otto* and other dealers not announced in advance. Why? To prevent the online store from being paralyzed due to the onslaught.
  • Since the turn of the year 2020/21 there have only been 14 such drops Otto* – of which only one in 2022:

  • We learn: There can be one to four weeks between the individual Otto ‘drops’.
  • Second lesson: Otto’s typical time slots are Tuesday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., in rare individual cases also in the afternoon or in the evening.
  • There are usually no PS5 sales campaigns on weekends and public holidays (neither at Otto nor at other providers).
  • There is a comparatively unmistakable indication of an impending sale at Otto. Usually the PlayStation 5 overview page* overwritten with the following words: “Thank you to everyone who ordered a PlayStation 5. Unfortunately, the PlayStation 5 is currently sold out on Otto.de.” If this sentence is missinga PS5 drop is imminent.
  • In addition to the ‘bare console’ for 399.99 euros (digital edition*) or 499.99 euros (disc model*) increasingly higher-priced bundles will be offered – i.e. combinations of console plus game or accessories.
  • Because everything has to happen very quickly in the event of a ‘drop’, we recommend that you create an Otto customer account in advance and save all relevant data there, especially address and means of payment.
  • Put all the models and bundles you want on the watch list (“Remember Article” – only works when logged in).
  • The PS5 is usually sold out after a very short time, often after 10 minutes. But: In the case of larger drops, individual models are activated and sold in blocks – patience and persistence pay off.
  • While an Otto drop is in progress, it can be worth picking up the good old phone and calling the Otto order acceptance department (040-3603 3603). A number of customers have secured a PlayStation 5 in this way. However, word of this ‘trick’ has already got around and therefore does not always work.
  • Please note: if you are ordering from Otto for the first time and you are a ‘blank slate’, you may have to pay a deposit.
  • Tip: As a new Otto customer, you should definitely use the 15-euro voucher, which is valid for the entire range. Enter the code when you place your first order 82222 in the appropriate field of the order form.

Update from February 21, 2022: After a break of more than two months Otto* unlocked a PS5 bundle this morning around 9:15 a.m. – for the first time this year: for €679 there was a PS5 with a Samsung SSD drive and Far cry 6. In our opinion, it was a manageable amount – we are just finding out the details.

Update February 18, 2022: On December 16, 2021 – more than two months ago – Otto sold a PlayStation 5 for the last time. Means: The coveted console was not opened around Christmas, nor in January, nor in the first half of February otto.de* order.

The Hamburg mail-order giant is by no means the only retailer struggling with replenishment problems: Amazon, MediaMarkt, Saturn, Expert, Euronics and Müller also received either no or only very small quantities in 2022. The background is the ongoing, cross-industry chip shortage, which is forcing the manufacturer Sony Interactive to cut production: several million fewer devices are rolling off the assembly line in the factories than originally planned.

The chances of getting hold of an originally packaged PlayStation 5 are correspondingly low. We keep you up to date in the daily PS5 ticker.

Update December 16, 2021: After a break of almost a month, Otto is selling this morning finally PlayStation 5 consoles again*. The drop occurs in small waves. So far in the range:

  • PS5 + additional controller + FIFA 22 + Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for €689
  • PS5 + additional controller (Cosmic Red) + Spider-Man: Miles Morales for €619
  • PS5 + additional controller + FIFA 22 for €629
  • PS5 Digital Edition + additional controller + camera for €519

Expect a third and final round to follow – keep that one the PS5 overview page at Otto* in view. Today’s contingent is only completely sold out when a corresponding notice appears on the PS5 page.

Update November 18, 2021: It finally has a PS5 drop again this morning otto.de* given, which has almost become a necessity because of the long time since the last action on October 21st.

Two bundles were sold: one with Call of Duty Vanguard for €629.99, on the other hand with the PS5 versions of Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding for €619.99. Both packages sold out within minutes. Delivery should take place within two to three working days.

If you are speculating on a PS5 opportunity with Otto, we strongly advise you again in advance to register as a customer and to store all information (delivery address, means of payment, etc.). If this does not happen, you will simply lose too much time during an ongoing PS5 drop – and in the worst case the console in the shopping cart.

Update from October 14, 2021: After a month-long break, a PS5 drop is back this Thursday otto.de* took place. The last PS5 sale at Otto is dated August 26, 2021.

Other large shippers are also affected by the PS5 supply slump, including the Otto subsidiaries MyToys and Baur. Unfortunately, it is currently not possible to predict when the next Sony delivery will be.
