A run-off is looming for the Costa Rican presidential election as no clear winner emerged in the vote count late Sunday. According to figures released by the electoral authority from counting at more than 75 per cent of polling stations, ex-president Jose Maria Figueres had a clear lead and was followed by ex-finance minister Rodrigo Chaves. However, at least 40 per cent of the vote is required to avoid a run-off in April.
