Lizards (in particular the endemic Jamaican Croaking Gecko, Aristelliger praesignis), frogs (which are associated with “obeah,” Afro-Creole spiritual healing beliefs and practices), and snakes are almost universally shunned — to the point where people’s reaction to these creatures can be extreme.
