Animal Crossing is one of the most popular series from Nintendo. Unfortunately, PC gamers will never be able to enjoy the colorful life simulation. But there is a promising alternative on Steam that is particularly visually reminiscent of the Switch model. At the latest when weapons are used, however, the survival game takes a different path to the cute island adventure.

Steam has its own Animal Crossing

In 2020 has Animal Crossing: New Horizons took the world by storm, and even today, players still swarm the islands of the Nintendo game.

You will probably never experience the switch game on the PC. But don’t worry, there is one Alternative on Steam: Longvinter.

That released on February 24th survival game is in an Early Access phase and, first and foremost, its appearance is strongly reminiscent of the Switch competitor.

look at the official trailer just take a look for yourself and convince yourself of the similarity:

What awaits you in Longvinter?

Long winter is a typical MMO in an open world, where the ultimate goal is survival. You can collect resources, craft items and even build a small town.

You can go it alone or together with your friends roam the survival world. While Animal Crossing always remains peaceful, Longvinter’s cute looks are very deceptive. Other players can become a real threat because the use of firearms is a suitable means to get the loot of the opponents.

But it doesn’t always have to be action-packed. You can also just explore the island and its mysteries, relax while fishing, plant seeds and then sell your yields.

However, the rating of the Steam game is currently very mixed. 69 percent of players gave Longvinter a positive review. Many call the game simple “Animal Crossing with Guns” or describe it as a simple rust.

Biggest criticisms are the overrun server, which make building in the world really difficult due to lack of space. In addition, the scope of the game is still really small. The endgame is reached quickly.

Also the many bugs and glitches rob a large part of the fun of the game at this point in time. At least exploring the island and the existing collectibles should be reminiscent of the Animal Crossing experience.
