Unreal Engine 5 has finally been released and there was a lot to see at the launch event, and not just the announcement that the next Tomb Raider will also use the new engine.

The Coalition, the developers of Gears of War, have also pulled one out of the bag and released a new tech demo called The Cavern – even if it doesn’t show any scenes from a new game project.

The tech demo comes from the Xbox Series X and shows impressive scenes of a man in a cave who is threatened by a strange being there. The depicted figure alone comprises countless polygons – the body is said to show 160,000, the face 31,000 and the beard even 3.5 million polygons.

Add to that the impressive Matrix demo that ran on the Xbox Series X/S and we can look forward to some visual bangers in the future. In addition to a new Tomb Raider, CD Projekt RED’s new Witcher game will also be developed on Unreal Engine 5.
