A lot has changed on Twitter since the social network launched in 2006, but one thing hasn’t changed: users can’t edit tweets after they’ve been posted. That’s about to change, though, as the company confirmed on Tuesday that it’s working on the long-awaited “Edit” button.
As the company said on its TwitterComms profile, the Twitter team is working on a feature to edit tweets “from last year”. Twitter also shared a brief description of the new button, which can be found by clicking on the three dots next to the tweet.
At the moment, the details of how this feature will work are unclear, but to put it simply, users will finally be able to edit the content of a tweet after it has been posted. The Edit button has been requested by many Twitter users over the years. However, at the same time, there is a group of users who don’t seem to like the idea.
Interestingly, this announcement comes after Elon Musk became Twitter’s largest shareholder on Monday. Musk asked his followers on a social network if they want a button to edit tweets, and 73% of voters said yes.
Twitter says the Edit button will first be released as part of Twitter Blue Labs, which is offering beta features to Twitter Blue subscribers. The company says it “learns what works, what doesn’t, and what’s possible” before making the button available to everyone.
