The Russian censorship authority Roskomnadzor demands that Wikipedia immediately remove “false information” regarding the “special military operation” in Ukraine.

If this does not happen, a fine of 4 million rubles awaits, which corresponds to 450,000 Swedish kronor.

A similar warning was sent to Youtube on March 29this together with the requirement that Russian channels such as RT should once again be made available on the service.

In this context, it can be mentioned that Belarus, one of the few countries that support the Russian invasion of Ukraine, chose to arrest Wikipedia contributor Mark Bernstein in March. This is due to the fact that he edited articles concerning the “special military operation”.

Wikipedia and Youtube do not intend to agree to the demands, nor do they intend to pay the fine, which in the long run may mean that the two sites are stopped in Russia.
