IT House reported on April 6, according to the release of CATL, on April 4, CATL’s first overseas factory in Thuringia, Germany officially obtained the battery cell production license. Germany officially issued the second phase of the license, and the German factory of the CATL obtained 8GWh of cell capacity license.
The factory is also the first battery factory in Germany and is currently in the equipment installation stage, making the final sprint for the first batch of batteries to be off the assembly line by the end of 2022.
The German factory of CATL mainly consists of two parts: G1 is a factory purchased from other companies to assemble cells into modules. G2 is a newly built plant for the production of cells. This license is a cell production license for G2.
The CATL German factory is almost as complex as the chip factory, with strict requirements for clean rooms, technical cleanliness and constant humidity. In addition, to make battery production sustainable, part of the factory’s energy comes from solar panels on the roof of the building.
The construction of the CATL Germany factory started in 2019 and is planned to be officially put into operation at the end of 2022, which will provide 1,500 jobs to the local area.
The plant plans to invest a total of 1.8 billion euros, with a planned production capacity of 14GWh, and will provide a total of 2,000 local jobs in the future. Located in the heart of Germany, the factory will provide products and services to major German automakers to help Europe’s full electrification and energy transition.
