Strong winds have forced Beijing Winter Olympics officials to call off the men’s Olympic downhill alpine ski event on Sunday. The medal event would now be held at a later, as yet unknown, date, organizers said. Organizers initially delayed the start of Sunday’s race before calling it off. On Saturday the final training session for the event was also cancelled over safety concerns. Three skiers were able to complete the course, on Xiaohaituo Mountain in Yanqing, before Saturday’s session was called off due to high winds.
