Many fans didn’t expect it anymore, but the joy is great: The original “Monkey Island” creator Ron Gilbert announces a new game for the series.

Monkey Island: The True Third Part is in the works

After Part 2, developer Ron Gilbert dropped out of production, much to the chagrin of fans. For many, the upcoming installments in the series weren’t complete without him. But now he’s back and According to their own statements, they have been secretly working on a new “Monkey Island” game for two years. He doesn’t come empty-handed either, as he’s making fans very happy with a trailer that’s roughly a minute long, as can be gleaned from the Twitter comments. (Source: Twitter)

The game is said to be a collaboration between Gilbert’s studio Terrible Toybox, Devolver Digital and Lucasfilm Games. Gilbert and Dave Grossman are listed as designers and writers, and fans have already spotted the return of Dominic Armato, to contribute as the original voice of Guybrush Threepwood.

Ron Gilbert diligently answers fans’ questions on Twitter. For example, he revealed that Murray the skull will also play a major role in ‘Return to Monkey Island’. However, he did not want to reveal much more. “Stop tweeting about Return to Monkey Island. I have to work here.”

Assessment by Jasmin Peukert
I can only say one thing: pure nostalgia! I haven’t played all of the books in the series, but the first one in particular stuck in my mind even though I was a crock at the time. Why? For example, I fondly remember the turntable that was needed to even start the game. Once you were inside, you had to study everything carefully and give the appropriate commands: “Look fish”. “Take Fish” – exciting, even if it drove me to despair at one point or another.

But what also made the game special was the great and dry humor that creator Ron Gilbert brought to the game. It can be assumed that Return to Monkey Island will also cause a few smiles. That’s why I’m excited for the new game and the opportunity to travel back to my childhood in a way.
