Here’s a nice surprise out of nowhere! More than 20 years after the release of the last opus, the famous Monkey Island franchise is about to sign a return under the flag of a publisher much appreciated by players, all developed by a certain gentleman well known to fans.
Monkey Island back after 20 years
It is through a short trailer that Devolver Digital has lifted the veil on Return to Monkey Island in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and developed by Terrible Toybox, the studio in particular behind Thimbleweed Park.
This news is something to delight point & click fans, since it allows Ron Gilbert to return to Monkey Island, the creator of the license himself!
For the moment, there is very little information to draw from this trailer, apart from the fact that the game will offer a most original artistic direction, as well as touches of humor of course, without forgetting the soundtrack sound that already promises to be captivating thanks to musicians who have already worked on the license: Michael Land, Peter Mcconnel and Clint Bajakian.
In addition to Ron Gilbert, the game was also thought and written by Dave Grossman, and Guybrush Threepwood is played by Dominic Armato! Suffice to say that the fans are likely to be thrilled.
Return to Monkey Island is expected in 2022, although no platforms have been announced yet.
