developer studio wargamingknown for games like World of Tanks or World of Warshipsannounced in a statement that all business activities in Russia and Belarus will. Like many other companies, Wargaming is now also drawing the consequences from the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine – even if the statement only speaks of a “strategic review of global business activities”.
What’s next for Wargaming?
More than 20 years ago Wargaming.net was founded in the Belarusian capital Minsk established before setting its headquarters in 2011 after Nicosia in Cyprus misplaced. The studio in Minsk – which was previously still actively involved in the projects – will now be “in compliance with legal regulations” dissolved as soon as possible. Games like World of Tanks will continue to operate in Russia and Belarus – though no longer under Wargaming’s stewardship.
Responsibility for the titles in both countries passed to the team from March 31, 2022 Lesta Studio transfer. The company was bought by Wargaming almost ten years ago. From now on, however, you have nothing more to do with the Russian developer studio. Wargaming now expects “significant drop in sales” as a result of this decision. However, they no longer want to benefit from the live games business in Russia and Belarus.
Wargaming already supported its employees in Ukraine
Because the developers of World of Tanks also in the Ukrainian Capital Kyiv run a studio, local employees were told shortly after the invasion began promised support. This was in the form of financial support and help when traveling to safe areas. Wargaming also took a stand with one $1 million donation to the Red Cross in Ukraine.
