Elon Musk, who just yesterday became the largest shareholder of Twitter, conducted a survey among users of the microblogging service about the need for a button to edit tweets.

Musk suggested the misspelled “yse” and “on” as options. The poll would have seemed like a joke if it hadn’t been retweeted by Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal with the caption: “The implications of this poll will be important.” Thus, the head of the microblogging service hinted that the survey may lead to the appearance of the edit button.

Interestingly, Twitter creator and former CEO Jack Dorsey said back in 2020 that the service would never add an edit button. He explained that the social network started out as a text messaging or SMS service where you can’t change the text once it’s sent, and Twitter clearly wanted to keep that vibe and feel.

At the time of publication of the article, 73.5% of the nearly 2.5 million users voted for the appearance of the edit button on Twitter.
